Structured as a telenovela, but with affectionate humor, this tells the story of Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez), a young virgin who is accidentally artificially inseminated. The core of the story is the loving, but sometimes contentious, relationships between Jane, her mother and her grandmother. All of the elements of a telenovela are here – evil twin, amnesia, love triangle, love found and love lost, but told with fresh intelligence.
