This series has the tagline “an occasionally true story.” It is a highly fictionalized, raunchy satirical comedy that (vaguely) tells the story of the idealistic young woman who would become Catherine the Great and her marriage to the boorish man-child Peter III. The parallels between first season Peter III and a certain US President are inescapable. The second season was disappointing as they changed the character of Peter entirely and thus lost much of what made the show so enjoyable.
