Full disclosure, unlike many others, I did not particularly like Deborah Harkness’ book that this show is based on. The book (and show) are about the relationship between a vampire and a witch and the political machinations of witches, vampires and demons revolving around a mysterious book. I liked the show better than the novel, particularly because I like Matthew Goode, who plays the vampire. However, the actress who played the witch was awful – she’s supposed to be exceptionally intelligent and accomplished but the actress has all of the gravitas of limp WonderBread and she didn’t hold up well against the excellent talent shown by the rest of the cast.
