A nurse from WWII, Claire (Catriona Balfe), while on a second honeymoon in Scotland, falls through some standing stones and into the 1740s. There she meets Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a handsome Scots nobleman/soldier/outlaw and they marry and fall in love. As the seasons continue, Claire and Jamie get involved in various historical events and travel the world, eventually ending up in America in Season 4 and later.
