Fallout

Our story takes place two hundred years after a nuclear holocaust in a 1950s reality that isn’t quite our reality. The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy

Best friends Dr Sleech and Dr Klak navigate relationships (good, bad, and really bad), anxiety-eating parasites, time loops and all kinds of other intergalactic maladies in this animated comedy. Not going to say that eating an edible first might increase the enjoyment, but NOT NOT going to say that either.

Fleabag

Darkly funny story of a young woman in London.  In Season 1 she is struggling with the death of her best friend and making poor choices. Season 1 is funny, quirky, smart, rueful and amazing.  Season 2 is transcendent. Phoebe Waller-Bridge wrote and stars.

Homecoming

Julia Roberts stars in season one of this smart, stylish drama about a center that assists returning servicemembers in the transition to civilian life.  Janelle Monae takes the lead in season two, as a woman who wakes up in a rowboat with no memory of who she is. The show switches back and forth between …

The Expanse

Dramatic space opera – sometimes confusing and the first season could drag, even with the fantastic special effects. The first season also really bothered me by the dearth of strong female characters and reliance on tropes. However, the second season introduced new characters, which fixed the representation problem, and with great new characters and more …

Carnival Row

Well-made but ultimately heavy-handed show set in a steampunk universe with fae and other creatures.  Political intrigue and a police detective investigating a series of murders in a world with both dirigibles and fairies. The problem is that the show has a Message (prejudice against immigrants is Bad) that is a subtle as an anvil, …

The Boys

In a world where there are superheroes, absolute power corrupts absolutely and behind the shiny façade, some of the superheroes are sociopathic assholes. This show follows a group of ordinary men who band together to expose the myth of the superhero.   Great story, but wildly (beyond the anything) graphic violence.

Good Omens

Fun romp about the battle between good and evil with a demon (played with delicious glee by David Tennant) and an angel, (Michael Sheen).  It’s all good fun, pitting Heaven and Hell and the Horsemen of the Apocalypse against one another, but very light.
