This HBO series, starring Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Nicole Kidman is a powerhouse show. It tells the story of a group of women in affluent Monterey. Witherspoon plays Madeline, a woman who needs to get involved in every problem she sees. She takes poor newcomer Jane (Woodley) under her wing and introduces her to Celeste (Kidman), her best friend. The story starts with a death, we don’t know whose, and we then go back to unravel the threads that lead to that ending. Compelling. I couldn’t watch Season Two (even with Meryl Streep) because Season Two is based on a ridiculous premise and I couldn’t get past that.
