What TV To Watch

Show Genre: Comedy

Taskmaster

The premise of this show sounds stupid – each season five comedians perform silly tasks assigned by “the Taskmaster” while the taskmaster’s hapless assistant (the actual creator and show runner of the show, Alex Horne) looks on. Then, a few months later, the five contestants gather in front of a live audience and the Taskmaster …

STEVE! (martin)

A short (two-part) mini-series about Steve Martin the comic and Steve Martin the person. A must for fans.

The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy

Best friends Dr Sleech and Dr Klak navigate relationships (good, bad, and really bad), anxiety-eating parasites, time loops and all kinds of other intergalactic maladies in this animated comedy. Not going to say that eating an edible first might increase the enjoyment, but NOT NOT going to say that either.

Cunk on Earth

This comedy is a send up of the many documentaries that purport to seriously cover the history of whatever. Extraordinary

I am not sure why I found this so hilariously funny – the jokes weren’t particularly sophisticated and the situations weren’t that funny (were they?), but I often had to pause this show because I was laughing so hard. The premise is simple – Jen is a twenty-five year old in a world where pretty …

The Afterparty

Someone is murdered at a party and each episode is a different witness/suspect telling the story of the evening, Rashomon-style, with the added benefit that each story is a different genre (action, romantic comedy etc).  A genuinely amusing whodunnit.

Abbott Elementary

A comedic pseudo-documentary reminiscent of Parks & Recreation, this time set in an inner-city elementary school. An enthusiastic young teacher (Quinta Brunson) faces the frustrations of teaching in a public school with unquenchable optimism. Very funny and full of heart, with an exceptionally talented cast.

A Black Lady Sketch Show

Most sketch shows are hit or miss, with a few genius sketches offset by a lot of clunkers, but not A Black Lady Sketch Show. Almost all of the sketches are solidly funny, and while there are few that rise to the level of true genius, there are pretty much none that are clunkers.  Watch …

Heartstopper

Charlie, the only out gay student at an all-boys prep school in England, forms a crush on handsome, athletic Nick. Despite dire warnings from his friends, Charlie gives in to his crush on the apparently straight Nick, forming an unlikely friendship. It’s hard to explain everything that is right with this show.  It’s a charming …
